After finishing a big commitment knit like a jacket (and thank you SO much for your very kind comments about it), a wee baby knit seemed just about the right speed. A dear friend of mine had her first baby in February, and I thought this sweet sweater looked just perfect. I fell in love with this pattern when I saw Heather’s version .
What a sweet quick little knit! I whipped it up in a couple of days in early February, Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport (one of my favorite yarns for baby knits), on size 5s.
The sweater used less than a skein of the yarn (roughly 150 yards), so I decided to make a little beanie to go with it.
I winged this little hat and was pretty pleased with how it turned out. Same yarn (maybe 50 yards), size 3 needles. Two knits out of 200 yards of yarn? Yes, please!
The baby arrived on her actual due date, safe and healthy (and big!), and I got the knits in the mail soon after. My friend sent me a picture of her wearing her sweater with some jeans and some pink sneakers, and let me tell you, that is the cutest little baby girl in the world! (and stylish, too)
I will definitely be making this sweater again, and probably the hat too.
Cute! I love knitting for babies. It’s such (relatively) instant gratification.
Love them!
Aw, how adorable!
You are too sweet, my friend! Isn’t this such a great pattern? I sort of can’t get over how perfect it is and your version is SO CUTE! Love the little hat btw:)
