designed :: quick little knit (Awbrey cowl)

my new design :: Awbrey, originally uploaded by earthchick.

Looking for a high-impact low-investment gift? Well, I’m super-excited to present my second knitting design. This squishy fat-cabled cowl is the ultimate in quick little knits. Worked up in less than a skein of Malabrigo Chunky, it is a perfect first cable project. Whip out several for Christmas gifts and still have time to put your feet up and sip a cup of hot cocoa.

Seriously, y’all, this is a Fast Knit. Turn on Love Actually cast on, and you’ll be done before the credits roll. With 10 days left till Christmas, you have time to crank out several.

Awbrey was named for my mother-in-law, who just moved to Michigan from Alabama and asked for something cozy, bright, and warm. This cowl does the trick! It’s stretchy enough to pull over your head, but the cables draw it in close to the neck to keep the chill away.

  1. Thank you! I think I need this for ME — I love the idea of cowls, and have knit several, but they’re usually to loose. It sounds like cables might solve that problem.

  2. I am making this right now in Patons Chunky wool yarn. I found the yarn at Value Village for one dollar !! Thought it was a real deal–get lots of yarn there for mere pittance.
This is my second cable project, so I’m finding it rather easy !!
Thanks so much for the pattern–it’s inspiring.
PLUS—it’s bitterly cold here in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada today.
